Lodi man, 21, is accused of having sex with girl, 13

LODI — A 21-year-old Lodi man is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

Lodi police arrested Robert Shane, 21, of 127 Howe St., on Friday on charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Police said a two-week investigation found evidence Shane had sexual contact with the girl on Dec. 21 in his car, which was parked in his driveway.

Police Chief Keith Keough said the sexual conduct — which included intercourse — was consensual.

“Basically it came to light when she told someone, who told someone, and it ended up getting to Job and Family Services,” Keough said.

Medina County Job and Family Services launched an investigation and alerted police.

Unlawful sexual conduct with a minor is a fourth-degree felony punishable by up to 18 months in prison.

His car was towed by police and will be processed as evidence by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Shane was arraigned Monday before Wadsworth Municipal Court Judge Stephen B. McIlvaine.

He was being held Tuesday at the Medina County Jail on $50,000 bond, 10 percent.

He also is being held on a probation violation for a burglary charge out of Medina County Common Pleas Court. Keough said that offense stemmed from an incident in Wadsworth in 2012.

A post on the Lodi Police Department’s Facebook page was removed Sunday after police posted the arrest and comments got out of hand.

“People were starting to debate the issue of why it’s OK to have sex with 13-year olds, and someone posted her name, too,” Keough said.

The names of juvenile victims usually are not released or publicized, nor are those of alleged victims of sexual assault.
