From brightly painted walls to a vast array of distinctive items, Medina Funtastic Toyz will please children as well as the simply young at heart. Ed Wright opened the specialty toy store seven months ago at 140 West Washington Street in the Historic District beside his other popular business, Miss Molly’s Tea Room and Gift Shop.
“The previous toy store that was here closed its doors permanently last March,” Wright said. “We started a brand new business from scratch. You walk in the door and it’s almost like a whole new world. We try our best to find things that you won’t find and can’t get in the big-box stores. We think about the kids, the adults, people with autism, and individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s. A specialty toy store should have something for everybody.”
“We updated everything,” store manager Janie Holley added. “There are so many unique things customers can interact and play with.”
Indian lore expert John Burke will make a special appearance at noon Feb. 15 to display Ohio Indian artifacts and explain their use. His visit is the prelude to a special dining event to be held at Miss Molly’s in early March, which will feature a presentation by Burke called “Ohio Indians Winter Survival.” The store will also offer salt painting ice sculptures Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and customers can register to win a gift certificate.
“These games and toys are fun for all ages, whether you’re 100 years old or 2 years old,” Wright said. “We’re a very family-oriented, friendly place.”
Normal store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 330-952-1130 or send e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
