Richard “Dick” Metheney, 71, of Quaker City, Ohio, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 at his home. He was born September 23, 1942 in Wadsworth, son of the late Lynn and Ruby (Starcher) Metheney.
Mr. Metheney was a retired steel worker, having worked at Republic and LTV Steel. He was an avid writer who currently has four books in print, a member of the Rainy Day Writers, and the founder of the Cambridge Writers Workshop.
He is survived by his wife, Alice (Harris) Metheney, whom he married on April 11, 2001; three sons, Daryl Metheney and Richard (Sara) Metheney of Valley City, and Russell (Sue) Metheney of Delaware, Ohio; a stepson, David Laschuk of Hudson, Ohio; and a stepdaughter, Patricia Righetti of Hartville, Ohio; two brothers, David (Leah) Metheney of Senecaville, Ohio, and Paul (Melinda) Metheney of Charlotte, North Carolina; and two sisters, Mary (Jack) Carpenter of Seville, and Avis Ryan of Clearwater, Florida; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, February 4, 2014, from 3 until 7 P.M., and Wednesday, February 5, 2014, from Noon until the time of the service at 1 P.M., at Thorn-Black Funeral Home in Cambridge, Ohio, with Pastor Jonathan Thibos officiating. A private, family burial will take place the following day at Mound Hill Cemetery in Seville.
