Ask Your Professional – Why should I get a regular massage?

Q: Why should I get a regular massage?

A:Having a regular massage appointment, say once or twice a month, may sound indulgent to you but in all reality it’s just as important as any other modality in your wellness routine.

Massage elongates and stretches out your muscles, and with the addition of some deep tissue techniques, adhesions that are causing pain will be broken down.  Fresh blood and oxygen is then pushed through these otherwise tight muscle tissues so your body can heal itself.  The stretching and elongating then helps the joints to move more freely.

Headaches are relieved, muscle soreness is gone, joint mobility is improved.  We can’t forget the improvement in your immune system with regular massage sessions, too.  White blood cell count and lymph flow are increased.  Your immune system is then able to work better, to keep you healthier! Massage relaxes you and improves your state of mind.

When we’re over-stressed or anxious, our body pumps out more adrenaline and cortisol. These two chemicals are not only responsible for weight gain, but for our inability to lose weight no matter how hard we try. A massage will interrupt this endless cycle of stress and turn off the production of these two harmful chemicals.

On the plus side, a massage stimulates our body’s production of serotonin and endorphins, two chemicals that are known to promote a sense of well-being and regulate mood swings.  Massage will help you sleep better at night which in turn helps you deal better with your tomorrows.

Massage will increase your self-esteem because you know that you are taking good care of yourself.  Bodywork is one way of showing our bodies, through the dialogue of touch, how we can become more grounded, relaxed, and ready for whatever life has in store for us.
