Donald E. McLaughlin

McLaughlinDonaldDonald E. McLaughlin, 83, of Burbank, died peacefully Monday evening, February 3, 2014, at Akron City Hospital. Don was born June 3, 1930 in Ripley Township, Huron County, the son of the late John and Esther (Pittenger) McLaughlin. He married Lois Lucille Pennell November 26, 1949, and she preceded him in death December 12, 2013.

Don was a farmer all of his life and operated a farm near Burbank since 1960. He had also worked at the Burbank Elevator, had been a truck driver, having driven for himself and Ron Burge Trucking, worked in construction and in excavating for oil companies and did custom harvesting. He also worked for Canaan Township for two years. Don served on the Burbank Fire Department for over 30 years and was a member of the Medina County Tractor Pullers Assoc., having pulled at the Wayne County and Medina County Fairs. Don would fix equipment for people or give people a job when needed. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his three children, Gene (Dawn) McLaughlin of Burbank, Donna (Chip) Daugherty of West Salem and Kathy (Steve) Martin of Wooster; four granddaughters, Morgan (Troy) Keener of Phoenix, Arizona, Mandy (Frank) Cotton of Taylorsville, Kentucky, Brook Daugherty of Wooster and Caitlin Martin of Columbus; a great-granddaughter, Brynn Keener; brothers, Wayne (Mary) McLaughlin of Marysville, Charles (Maryann) McLaughlin of Mansfield and Jerry McLaughlin of Greenwich; a sister, Nellie Reynolds of Willard; a brother-in-law, Richard (Peggy) Pennell of Plymouth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a son, Steven L. McLaughlin; and sisters, Ruth Ann Hamer, Claire Keller, Maxine McQuate and Linda Hartz.

Services will be Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 11 A.M., in Murray Funeral Home, in Creston, with Pastor Bud Olszewski officiating. Burial will be in Burbank Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, February 7, 2014, from 5 until 8 P.M., in the funeral home.
