Job fair for youths March 6 in county

More than a dozen area employers will greet an expected 250 or more young job-seekers at the second annual Youth Seasonal Job Fair on March 6.

Sponsored by the nonprofit Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates, the event will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the JOG Resource Room, 3711 Pearl Road, Medina Township.

Pamela Crombie, a career specialist at the Resource Room, said more than 25 businesses expressed interest in coming to the fair, “but unfortunately we can’t fit more than about 15 into our available space.”

Nine businesses attended the first job fair last year.

“Due to the success of last year’s job fair and the significant increase in demand this year, we are looking to possibly expand this event to a larger venue in 2015,” JOG Execuive Director Chris Canova said.

Employers who have registered to attend the Youth Seasonal Job Fair so far include Cedar Point, Mapleside Farms, The Reserve Network, Medina Meadows, Buffalo Wild Wings, Lamphears Lawn Service. Giant Eagle, Rinky Dink Family Fun Center, Golden Alliance Inc. (McDonald’s), Weymouth Country Club, Stop-n-Go, Elmcroft of Medina and Wadsworth YMCA.

The event is open to Medina County residents 16 to 21 years old.

Ron Whitmer, JOG operations manager, said four high schools — Brunswick, Buckeye, Cloverleaf and Medina — and the Medina County Career Center are committed to sending students to the fair.
