Police officer, another driver hurt in head-on crash in Liverpool Township

LIVERPOOL TWP. — An off-duty police officer and another driver were seriously injured in a head-on crash early Saturday on Station Road, according to the Medina Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Dalton P. Phillips, 23, of Columbia Station, was driving a 1992 Dodge Ram truck northbound on Station Road, north of Grafton Road, shortly after midnight when he lost control in a curve and went of the east side of the road, reports said. Phillips over-corrected and drove left of center and was struck by a southbound 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Jack A. Justice, 43, of Liverpool Township.

Justice is a 14-year veteran with the North Olmsted police.

Phillips’ truck went off the west side of the roadway, striking a ditch and overturned. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to Southwest General Hospital in Middleburg Heights.

Justice was critically injured and was flown by helicopter to Cleveland Metro Hospital.

Medina County Sheriff’s Office and the Valley City Fire Department assisted on scene.
