13-vehicle crash closes Interstate 71

MONTVILLE TWP. —Montville police are reporting that Interstate 71 southbound, south of state Route 18 is now partially open after police and state troopers cleared one of two crashes that occurred one mile apart.

One crash involved 14 vehicles on I-71 SB over the bridge to Route 18 and a second 10-vehicle crash occurred one mile south of that at the 217 mile marker.

Police report that the crash over the bridge has been cleared from the roadway, with some police still on the scene completing paperwork and waiting on tow trucks. The other crash further south  is still blocking two of the three lanes of traffic. All crashes should be cleared up by 3pm for the evening rush.

The Medina Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports there are no fatalities and officials are trying to get the road open to traffic soon.

Interstate 76 westbound, just west of state Route 57 in Wadsworth Township, is also open again after stopped commercial vehicles clogged traffic there.
