Lad A. Jelen, 72, of Rittman, died at home Thursday, March 20, 2014. Born October 4, 1941 in Cleveland, he grew up in Granger Township, graduated from Highland High School and lived in Mentor, before moving to Rittman in 2002.
Mr. Jelen enjoyed singing in church choirs since 1972, the Lakeland Civic Chorus for 34 years, and the Master Singers Chorale. He was a church cantor since 1979. He enjoyed attending musical concerts, especially Early Music and those of the Akron and Canton Symphony Orchestras, where his nephew, Todd Jelen was the principal bassoonist.
Mr. Jelen was a retired engineer, having worked at the former Westinghouse Naval Systems in Cleveland for 26 years.
Survivors are his wife, Peggy; sons, David of Berea and Thomas of Columbus; daughters, Christine (Ken) Gallagher of Washington; Catherine Monreal of California; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Patricia (Clark) who died in April, 1998; parents, Lad and Gladys; and brother, Robert.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 25, 2014, 6 to 8 P.M., at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman Street in Wadsworth. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 26, 2014, 11 A.M., at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 161Clinton Street in Doylestown. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
