James H. Dittmar, 72, of Valley City went to his heavenly home, Thursday, March 20, 2014. Jim was born on December 13, 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Harry and Margaret Dittmar. He had resided in Valley City since 1975.
Jim was an U.S. Army Veteran. He had retired after 30 years as a mechanical engineer for NASA, Cleveland. He was a graduate of Dormont High School and Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. He was an active member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, where he served quietly behind the scenes. Jim enjoyed going to car shows and watching the races at Norwalk’s Drag Strip. He loved driving his Mustang and Dune Buggies and enjoyed driving stock cars in road rallies. He never missed his girls school activities, always wearing his signature Indiana Jones hat. His dry sense of humor and puns amused (and confused) many a friend.
Survived by his wife, Donna married 42 years; daughters, Jennifer and Amanda.
Preceded in death by a sister, Joan Bowen
There will no calling hours. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 6656 Center Road Valley City. Rev. Bert Ambrose, Jr. officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the Emmanuel United Church of Christ or to the Salvation Army.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Bauer Funeral Home, Valley City.
