Four men are facing felony drug charges from two separate marijuana busts on Interstate 71 late last month.

On March 27, Medina County sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Kohler stopped two vehicles during two different shifts, and confiscated more than 4 pounds of marijuana, according to sheriff’s reports.

In the first incident, at 1:18 a.m. Kohler stopped Albert Ross III, 23, of Lorain, just south of the I-71 interchange with state Route 303 for failure to drive in marked lanes.

A K-9 unit signaled there may be drugs in the car and the vehicle was searched. Officers found a bag in the trunk that contained more than a pound of marijuana. Also confiscated were cash and six cell phones police believe Ross used as part of a drug-trafficking business.

A preliminary hearing for Ross is scheduled for Friday in Medina Municipal Court.

Kohler also made the second arrest later that day during his second shift of the day at

11:34 p.m. He pulled over a Chevrolet Tahoe on I-71 in southern Medina County for excessive window tint and his K-9 unit signaled there may be drugs in the vehicle.

Kohler found more than 3 pounds of marijuana inside the back compartment of the Tahoe.

Officers also reported confiscating a concealed weapon from Michael Calhoun, 28, one of three Cincinnati men in the vehicle.

Calhoun, along with Isaac J. Slaughter, 28, and Kevin O. Evans, 27, were charged with possession of marijuana, a fifth-degree felony.

Calhoun also was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a fourth-degree felony.

The Tahoe the men were traveling in was impounded.
