Amil F. Hellmers, 84, of Medina, passed away, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Amil was born July 5, 1929, in Johnson City, New York, to the late Emil and Helena Hellmers. He lived in New York until 1971, when he moved to Medina.
Amil worked as a production superintendent for Boise Cascade Corp. in Cleveland for 20 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. Amil received three bronze stars on his tour of duty.
He was a member of the Medina Moose, Medina Eagles #2242, Medina VFW Post# 5137, Medina DAV, H.O.G., AMA, Medina County Farmers Sportsman Club and the Black River Gun Club. Amil had many hobbies which included hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and his motorcycles. Amil had a lot of family and friends that will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carol (nee Hastings); children, Diane (Doug) Areskog, of Abilene, Texas, Jackie (Mark) Hamad of Copley, Mark Hellmers of Rochester, New York, John (Yvonne) Brine of Litchfield and Alan (Robin) Brine of Medina; grandchildren, Heather Schmoke, Melissa (Keith) Hayes, Julie (Casey) Campbell, Michael (Alycia) Jaquays, Jessica (Jacob) Ashdown, Kelly Hamad, Kasey Hamad, Kyle Hamad, Michelle Brine, Kathryn (Mark) DiStaulo, Roslyn (Jack) Fitzgerald, Robert Brine, Greg Brine, Alyson and Emily Brine; and great-grandchildren, Angelo, Adam, Emma, Abigail, Ava, Isabella, Mark Joe and Kylee.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Hellmers.
Funeral Service will be at 11 A.M., Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City. Calling hours are Sunday, April 13, 2014, from 3 until 8 P.M., at the funeral home. Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
