The Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach has released the schedule for its fourth professional “Jazz under the Stars” summer concert series.
The series will begin June 7 with Cleveland-based vocalist Eileen Burns. The concert will highlight a mix of swing and romantic jazz standards.
The once-a-month concerts will continue through the summer:
On July 12
One of the leading alto saxophonists on today’s jazz scene, Bobby Selvaggio, will return with Ashley Summers on bass, Chris Baker on drums and Theron Brown on piano. The concert will feature new original jazz music composed by Selvagio, along with some jazz favorites.
On Aug. 16
Akron-based trumpeter and composer Josh Rzepka will lead his jazz trio in a performance that will feature the music of jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, and others. The trio will also play original compositions from Rzepka’s acclaimed albums, “Into the Night” and “Midwest Coast.”
On Sept. 6
The summer series wraps up with Hudson-based Tim Akin and his combo as they heat things up with tunes from the American Songbook.
The free concerts are at 7 p.m. in Medina’s Public Square. Music lovers are encouraged to bring picnic baskets and lawn chairs.
