Dining man with warrant tries to get police to dash

BRUNSWICK — A Mayfield Heights man wanted on charges of rape and kidnapping was arrested at a fast-food restaurant in Brunswick on Sunday evening.

Dorjan M. Shivers, 21, was taken into custody at 7:16 p.m. Sunday after police found his car outside a fast-food restaurant in the 1200 block of Pearl Road, according to a police report.

A records check of his license plate revealed the arrest warrants and police waited outside the restaurant.

While they were waiting, a man called the Brunswick 911 dispatch line and asked police to leave the parking lot because they were on private property. The man wouldn’t give dispatchers his name, but the phone number was registered to Shivers, the police report said.

After officers confirmed the warrant, they arrested Shivers and he was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail. A grand jury had indicted Shivers on seven charges on April 16.

He is charged with two counts of rape and one county of kidnapping a 17-year-old girl in May 2013. The charges are both first-degree felonies. The indictments said the victim had a mental or physical disability making her unable to resist or consent to sex.

He also is charged with two counts of rape and kidnapping a 19-year-old woman in January 2013, Those charges also are first-degree felonies. He also is charged with gross sexual imposition against that victim, a fourth-degree felony.

According to Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court records, Shivers is being held at the jail on a $75,000 bond. A pretrial conference in the case is set for 9 a.m. Friday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
