John was employed with United Airlines flight operations for 35 ½ years, retiring 32 years ago. He proudly served in the United States Navy RDM 1st C from 1940-1946 and was a survivor of the USS Quincy CA39 that sunk August 9, 1942, in the battle of Savo Island, Guadalcanal.
In retirement, his passion was playing 1st base with the Huff-n-Puffers for 18 years, traveling to Navy reunions each May and September, having lunches with the Ohio Buckeyes, retiree group of United Airlines, and his much loved garden with Rutger tomatoes.
Needless to say, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He was the stepdad of Robert Custer (Lori), Patricia Pietrasz (Rick), and Sharon Campbell (Bob); Grandpa John to Vickie Hatch (Kevin), Susie Urzycki (Steve), Ricky Pietrasz, Danielle Campbell, and Bobby Campbell; brother of Frank Jeskey (Barb), Wanda Borkowski, Mary Bishop, and Lucy Sitarski and the late Julius Jeskey, Eddie Jeskey, and Jean; stepbrother-in-law to Lois Walter, Donna McDonald and Gail Wright (Eddie); uncle to many nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Funeral service will take place at 10 A.M, Friday, May 16, 2014, at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Rd, N. Olmsted. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. John’s family will receive friends at the Chapel Thursday, May 15, 2014, from 3 until 8 P.M.
