A Christmas tree manufacturer, whose customer service and corporate operations are based in Brunswick’s industrial park but manufacturing is in China, is adding some assembly work here.
Santa’s Own, which sells products wholesale to retailers, plans to create four to five assembly positions here and is considering moving some of its China manufacturing operation to the United States next year.
“Right now, this year, we’re taking it slow, but the ultimate goal is bringing back manufacturing,” said Mark Wasylow, an account manager based in Brunswick.
Santa’s Own has been in Brunswick for seven years since breaking away from Litehouse Products.
Wasylow said the company manufactures high-end specialized trees, and it’s hard to find the right location to manufacture their products in China.
“Our quantities aren’t as big,” Wasylow said. “By bringing it back here, it gives us control of our product costs and quality.”
The company has brought six new machines to Brunswick. One of the first products to be assembled here will be the “growing tree,” an artificial tree that can extend 7½ feet to 9 feet.
The tree will feature stay-lit lighting, which allows all other bulbs to stay lit when one light goes out.
Company President Brian Love said he’s excited to start employing more local people in manufacturing as early as 2015.
“Our intent is to grow our business each year and also to promote efficiency by manufacturing many of our product components ourselves,” he said.
In addition to artificial Christmas trees, the company makes wreaths, garlands and lighted outdoor decor. The trees are sold throughout the United States. In Ohio, the trees are sold at Litehouse Pools locations, Litehouse of Wooster, Pools and More in Lima and Town and Country Nursery & Florist in New Springfield.
