Tanis C. Burkhead, 61, formerly of Lodi, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 9, 2014, at Akron City Hospital, after a four year struggle with declining health. Tanis was born July 27, 1952, in Medina, to William and Esther Burkhead. She was the eldest sister to three siblings.
Tanis was a 1971 graduate of Highland High School and still kept in touch with several of her classmates. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her two grandsons, reminiscing about her school days and spending time with family and close friends. Tanis also loved attending Crossroads Assembly of God Church in Creston.
Survivors include her son, Shaun (Donna) Smith of Norton; daughter, Katrina (Cory) Fankhauser of Creston; grandchildren, Blaine Smith and Gage Fankhauser; parents, William (Gail) Burkhead of Sullivan, Esther Burkhead of Hinckley; brother, Randy (Karen) Burkhead of West Salem; sister, Rhonda (Rex) Pennington of Hartville; brother, Keith Burkhead of Hinckley; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Crossroads Assembly of God Church, 10220 Wooster Pike Rd., Creston. Pastor Mike Boggs and Pastor Gary Menke will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Crossroads Assembly of God Church.
The family would like to extend thanks to Pastor’s Mike Boggs and Gary Menke, along with Crossroads Assembly of God Church, for their continued support and prayers, and to her closest friend, Charlotte Vetter, who continued to be by Tanis’ side until the very end.
One day, sweet mother, daughter, sister and friend, we will see you again, at the gates of Heaven.
