Three drivers were arrested on charges of operating a vehicle impaired Friday night during a sobriety checkpoint on state Route 303 in Brunswick.
The checkpoint was conducted by the Medina County OVI Task Force and included officers from Brunswick, Wadsworth, Montville, Seville and Medina Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol and Medina County Sheriff’s Office.
About 300 cars were checked near the 4600 block of Center Road, just west of Pearl Road.
In the three OVI arrests, two drivers refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test. One driver had 0.112 blood-alcohol content. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08.
Police also made 55 traffic stops. One felony arrest was made, and three misdemeanor arrests for possession of drug paraphernalia, marijuana possession and underage possession of alcohol were made.
In May, the OVI Task Force provided extra patrols looking for impaired drivers and safety violations. During the month, the task force recorded five OVI arrests, two felony arrests and 13 misdemeanor arrests. There were 158 traffic stops, which included citations for driving under suspension, speeding and safety belt violations.
The OVI Task Force has conducted two checkpoints in the county this year and officers with the highway patrol have conducted three.
The task force already has another checkpoint planned for this weekend in Medina County. The date and city where the checkpoint will be will be announced the day before the checkpoint and the exact location of the checkpoint will be announced on the morning of the checkpoint.
The task force conducts checkpoints using money provided by a federal grant.
