Felony charges pending after motorcycle chase that led to crash

BRUNSWICK — Felony charges are pending against a 53-year-old man who was transported to a hospital Saturday after police reported he crashed a motorcycle while fleeing from officers.

David Gundel, of Brook Park, has been released from MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, but Brunswick police spokesman Nick Solar said a Medina County grand jury will review charges against him.

Police reported Gundel at 10:50 p.m. was traveling north at 64 mph on South Carpenter Road, which has a 35 mph speed limit. He was pulled over, but police said he fled south down Interstate 71, where he crashed in a southbound rest area.

Officers said they detected the odor of alcohol on Gundel and he was transported via helicopter to the hospital, where he refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test.
