Litchfield resident, 23, killed in Chatham crash

CHATHAM TWP. — A Litchfield Township man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon at U.S. Route 42 and Vandemark Road.

According to the Medina post of the Ohio Highway Patrol:

Cory M. Chaplin, 23, of Litchfield Township, was headed south on Vandemark Road and stopped at the stop sign at Route 42.

Driving a 1992 Chrysler LeBaron, Chaplin pulled into the intersection and his car was broadsided by a westbound 2005 Ford F-750 driven by Gregory L. Kemp, 58, of Berea, at 4:42 p.m.

Chaplin died in the crash.

Kemp sustained minor injuries and was transported to Lodi Community Hospital.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

A lane of Route 42 westbound was closed for about two hours following the crash. Besides the patrol, responding agencies included Chatham Township EMS and Medina County Sheriff’s Office.
