Jean Miller, 91, of Westfield Center, died peacefully Monday, July 14, 2014, at Wooster Community Hospital, following a period of declining health. Velma Jean Garrison was born October 29, 1922, in Ohio County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Willard Lloyd and Ruth Loretta (Parsons) Garrison and graduated in 1940 from Sterling High School. She was first married to Robert E. Maibach and on May 12, 1972, she married Kenneth R. Miller, who preceded her in death on January 16, 2005.
Jean retired from Westfield Companies, following 15 years of services and made her home in Sterling, prior to moving to Westfield Center in 1976. She enjoyed horse racing and with her husband, owned thoroughbred horses for many years. Jean loved to garden and work outside and took great pride in her home. She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren to cook and bake and was a wonderful homemaker.
Surviving are her children, Patti Leohr of Chippewa Lake, Ginny Hahn of Westfield Center, Sally (Tom) Brokken of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Jim (Melissa) Maibach of Norwalk, Sue (Barry) Schaad of Lebanon, Connie Sims of Wickliffe, Kathy (Tom) Iceman of Wooster and Marilyn (Tracy) Slater of Creston; daughter-in-law, Micki Maibach of Johnstown; stepsons, David (Glynice) Miller of Medina and Kenneth Ray (Marietta) Miller of St. Louis, Missouri; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; a son, Robert “Bobby” Maibach, Jr., and infant son, Danny Maibach; a brother, Charles Garrison and sisters Bertha Eckles and Faye Garrison.
Services will be Friday, July 18, 2014, 11 A.M., at Murray Funeral Home in Creston, with Pastor Leslie Critchfield officiating. Burial will be in Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, July 17, 2014, from 5 until 8 P.M., at the funeral home.
