Police looking for man who robbed South Court Street’s FirstMerit Bank

MEDINA — Medina police are searching for a man who robbed the 1105 S. Court St. branch of FirstMerit Bank on Wednesday morning.

Police say the man is white and approximately 6 feet tall. He wore a blue mask with black hooded sweatshirt during the robbery at about 11:15 a.m.

Police say he was seen driving a black four-door car with temporary tags.

“He took a quantity of money but we cannot release the actual amount at this time,” Police Chief Patrick Berarducci said.

Berarducci said witnesses did not see whether the man was armed.

A representative from FirstMerit did not return calls for comment Wednesday.

The Cleveland branch of the FBI and the Medina Police Department are investigating videotapes of the incident.

Berarducci said anyone with information on the robbery is urged to call Medina police at (330) 725-7777.

The bank robbery is Medina’s first in six years.

James Polanski, 32, of Medina, was convicted of robbing the FirstMerit branch on North Court Street in 2008.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2009 after pleading no contest to aggravated robbery as part of a plea bargain.
