Nathan Stallard and Ciara Farnsworth were named Medina County Fair’s King and Queen Monday night.

“Unimaginable,” Farnsworth said about winning the competition. “I am overwhelmed, shaking and crying.”

Farnsworth will be a sophomore at the University of Akron. Stallard will be a senior at the Medina County Career Center.

Four young men and nine young women ages 16 to 19 competed in the contest with the winners receiving a chance to compete for the Ohio State Fair king and queen contest in January.

Stallard said the hardest part of the competition was the word definition section. Each contestant had to answer a question drawn from a hat and also define what a randomly chosen word meant to them.

Three judges decided the winners based on each contestant’s poise, personality, communication skills, activities and leadership skills among other things.

Stallard and Farnsworth said they will use their new royalty to increase public awareness of 4H clubs around the county.
