Check out the more comprehensive story here.

MONTVILLE TWP. — A 16-year-old Bath Township girl was killed on Sunday night in a crash in the 5800 block of River Styx Road.

Montville Police Chief Terry Grice said Katherine Babak, 16, was headed north in her 1994 Plymouth Acclaim when she was struck by a Jeep Cherokee driven by Jeremy Goodrich, 26, of Rittman. Grice said Goodrich’s car went left of center striking the Acclaim head-on around 11 p.m.

Babak was pronounced dead at the scene. Her two passengers, from Akron and Montville Township, were taken by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Their names could not yet be released pending notification of family members.

Goodrich had to be removed from his Jeep by mechanical means and was also taken by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Grice said an investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed as of Monday afternoon. He said blood samples were taken to determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

Grice said his officers have not been able to interview Goodrich and it may take time for officers to complete their investigation. Medina Township Police, the Medina Life Support Team, Medina Fire Department and Sharon Township Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
