Teen in fair condition after crash that killed her friend

One of three teenagers involved in a fatal crash Sunday night on River Styx Road in Montville Township was in fair condition Tuesday.

Katherine Babak, 16, of Bath Township in Summit County, was killed when the car she was driving was hit head-on about 11 p.m. A vigil was held for her Tuesday night at Revere High School, where she had been a student.

According to township police, Valerie Snyder, 15, of Cuyahoga Falls, was riding in the front seat of Babak’s car and Earlena Couch, 16, of Montville Township, was in the back seat.

Babak was pronounced dead at the scene; Snyder and Couch were transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Snyder was listed in fair condition, but Couch’s condition was unavailable Tuesday.

Babak’s car was hit by a Jeep driven by 26-year-old Jeremy Goodrich, of Rittman. He also was listed in fair condition at MetroHealth.

Police said Goodrich’s southbound Jeep crossed the center line, striking Babak’s northbound car.

No charges have been filed in the crash, but police Lt. Matthew Neil said the investigation is ongoing and charges are anticipated.
