The county will begin advertising for bids from companies interested in operating the recycling center next year.
County commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday to begin advertising for two bid options Thursday on the county and the sanitary engineers’ websites. Advertising also will appear in The Gazette, The Ohio Buckeye Chapter of The Solid Waste Association of North America, The National SWANA Newsletter, and the national Biocycle Magazine.
County Sanitary Engineer Amy Lyon-Galvin presented two proposed contract options to commissioners last week.
She said the reason for two bid options was to generate “creativity in the response from bidders.”
Both proposed contracts differ from the contract with Cleveland-based Envision Waste, which expires at the end of the year, Lyon-Galvin said.
Differences include changes in length of the contract and ownership of equipment and trucks, and the addition of a higher penalty if the operator fails to recycle at least 30 percent of the waste delivered to the facility in Westfield Township.
The deadline for bidders is Sept. 25 before a 3:30 p.m. public meeting in the administration building to open the bids.
The county has until Oct. 31 to choose a winning bid.
