He was the most faithful, loving husband one could have of Carolee Rafn (Geiger) for over 61 years and the greatest father and family man of H. Jeffrey Rafn (wife Karen), Linda Andrie (husband Von), Carolee Berry (husband Gene), Kristyne Kulis (husband Todd) and foster daughter, Ellen Fox. As grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of eight, he loved to share stories, nuggets of wisdom and sage advice. He leaves behind his brother, Robert Rafn and was preceded in death by his father, Sigurd T. Rafn and mother, Blanche Rafn (Roth).
A Korean War veteran and a long time employee of B.F. Goodrich, Don was a dedicated member of Medina United Church of Christ Congregational, sharing his love of music as a member of the chancel and bell choirs. An avid photographer, handyman extraordinaire, bicycler, camper, traveler, and one time square dancer, he holds the family grand prize for the largest fish caught at the family’s favorite vacation spot, Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
He leaves a legacy of strong values, determination and sacrifice. His wise sayings continue to guide his family and friends. Thanks Dad and dearest husband for inducting us into the Tommy, Tommy Club. One more question, though, in Heaven does the rain hurt the rhubarb?
A memorial service celebrating Don’s life will be held at the Medina United Church of Christ Congregational, 217 E. Liberty St., Medina, Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11 A.M., with a reception to follow. All are invited to come.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be given either to the Medina United Church of Christ Congregational or the Hospice of Medina County, 5075 Windfall Rd., OH 44256.
