Diane I. Kirkwood

Kirkwood_DianeDiane I. Kirkwood, 72, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Martin Medical Center in Stuart, Florida. Born in Galva, Illinois, Mrs. Kirkwood had previously lived in Akron, before relocating to the Stuart area 20 years ago.

She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, her Master’s degree from University of Akron and then proceeded to receive her Doctorate from University of Akron. Mrs. Kirkwood retired as the Superintendent of the Buckeye Local School System in Medina.

She loved roller coasters, travelling and spoiling her grandchildren.

Mrs. Kirkwood is survived by her sons, Brian (Cheryl) Kirkwood of Stuart, Florida and Scott Kirkwood of Birmingham, England; daughter, Erin Kirkwood (Marko) Sillanpaa of Stuart, Florida; grandchildren, Alex, Lacey and Penny.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and her brothers, James and Tom Binge.

    Truly an amazing person who was willing to listen to ideas. I remember when she first came to York Elementary as a principal. A very personable human being. Her interest in purchasing the land behind the original Buckeye High school has proven to be the right thing, even though she was criticized for it at the time. A job well done for Buckeye School District. Sorry to hear of her passing.
