ACT preparation classes available at Medina County Career Center

College-bound students planning to take the ACT will have two opportunities to enroll in preparation classes at the Medina County Career Center, 1101 W. Liberty St., Medina.

The five-week course includes sample ACT tests to identify areas of weakness and help with setting goals and building confidence in taking the test. The classes will be available 6 to 8:30 p.m. starting Sept. 15. A second session at the same times begin Nov. 4.

Registration fee for the course is $179, and includes materials and personalized study and homework plans.

Financial aid is available for students who can’t afford the fee, according to Laura Icardi, of Lafayette Township, owner and operator of ACT Test Preparation, which is offering the classes.

Icardi has taught an ACT preparation class at the University of Akron’s continuing education program since 2004. She established her business several years later. She and two other instructors now conduct classes in five counties.

“The main reason to prepare is to make sure the test score reflects your ability,” said Laura Icardi. “We review material comprehensively, plus focus on strategies.”

Icardi said experienced teachers will review skills in English and math, as well as test-taking strategies.

Class sizes are small — fewer than 24 students — and both small group and individual instruction are available, she said. Icardi said a new, online course will begin this summer. Courses are offered every fall, winter and spring.
