Edith L. Hastings

HastingsEdithEdith L. Hastings, 85, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in Medina. She was born February 17, 1929, to the late Ernest and Ruby (Wooden) Smith in Lupton City, Tennessee.

After marrying Frank R. Hastings, Jr. in 1948, Edith worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad in Cleveland. She later became a mother and homemaker, also helping out Frank in the printing business that he ran with his father in Parma.

Frank and Edith purchased their farm in Medina in 1970 and continued running Hastings Printing there until they retired in 2000. They started growing Christmas trees around 1975 and spent many hours outside taking care of the trees and the farm.

Edith was an avid bridge player and belonged to many bridge groups. She also loved cooking, gardening, swimming, reading and crossword puzzles.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 2012.

She is survived by her children, F. Russell and his wife Treva of Wadsworth, Sharon and her husband Mehran Bidanjiri of Scottsdale, Arizona and Lisa of Gloria Glens; her grandchildren, Kevin and his wife Sarah, Christopher and his wife Lea, Holly, Kyle, Kian and Brian; her great-granddaughter, Rebecca; three brothers and two sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 7 to 9 P.M. at the Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Service will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 217 E. Liberty St., Medina. Reverend Doctor Neal Sadler will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church. Burial will follow at Poe Cemetery.
