Scarecrow contest coming to Medina for upcoming harvest festival

Main Street Medina and Boyert’s Greenhouse are challenging residents to create the best scarecrow for the third annual Historic District Scarecrow Contest.

Scarecrows will be placed in flowerpots on the sidewalk around the city’s historic district.

“There have been really creative scarecrows in the past,” Matt Wiederhold, executive director of Main Street Medina, said. “It is a good way to attract people to walk around the historic district.”

The contest leads up to the Medina Community Recreation Center Halloween Harvest Fest on Oct. 10 and 11.

The contest is open to any Medina community group, family, church or business. Registration forms are available online at www.mainstreetmedina.com, or at the Medina County Convention & Visitors Bureau, 32 Public Square. Registration is free and will be open Monday to Sept. 12.

Each group will be assigned a specific pot to put its scarecrow in by Sept. 17.

The winners of the contest will be announced at noon Oct. 11 during the Halloween Fest.

Winners will receive:
• 1st, $200 Boyert’s gift certificate
• 2nd, $100 Boyert’s gift certificate
• 3rd, $50 Boyert’s gift certificate
• 4th, $25 Boyert’s gift certificate
• 5th, $20 Boyert’s gift certificate.
