Eight companies, including two from outside Ohio, are interested in taking over the operations of the Medina County recycling center.

County Sanitary Engineer Amy Lyon-Galvin said Envision Waste Services, the Cleveland-based company that now operates the Center Processing Facility, in Westfield Township, will be one of the bidders.

The other seven that have registered to bid on the project are Flint River Recycling, of Marengo, Illinois; VEXOR Technology, of Medina; Rumpke Waste and Recycling Services, of Broadview Heights; The Optiva Group, Ltd., of Cleveland; Kimble Companies, of Dover; Waste Management Recycling Services, of Pittsburgh; and Browning-Ferris Industries of Ohio, Inc., of Fairview Park.

Lyon-Galvin said the companies will tour the center at 2 p.m. Friday.

The eight companies visited the center Aug. 21 for a pre-bid tour. Lyon-Galvin said the companies will return Friday for a more intensive survey to better evaluate the center.

“They’ll be able to take measurements for their own equipment and gather more information in preparation for their bid,” she said.

The deadline for bids is 3:30 p.m. Sept. 25. The winning bid is expected to be announced Oct. 31.
