'Cavs Notes'
Cavs schedule preseason games in Cincinnati, Canton, Columbus
CLEVELAND — If the NBA lockout is settled in time, the Cavaliers will be spending most of their preseason in the Buckeye State.
Cleveland unveiled its eight-game exhibition schedule Thursday, featuring three home games at Quicken Loans Arena and three others within Ohio during the month of October.
The Cavaliers will play “home” games at Cincinnati’s U.S. [...]
NBA schedule released: Cavs opener in Boston
INDEPENDENCE — The ongoing NBA lockout didn’t prevent the league from announcing 2011-12 schedules Tuesday, with the Cavaliers slated to open the regular season against Boston for the fourth straight year.
The Cavs will open at TD Garden on Nov. 2, a Wednesday, before playing their home opener at Quicken Loans Arena against Toronto two nights [...]
Cavaliers commentary: Some anniversaries should be forgotten
Friday was the one-year anniversary of “The Decision,” also known as LeBron James announcing live on ESPN that he would take his talents to South Beach.
Admittedly, it snuck up on me, otherwise there would have been a story in Friday’s paper instead of today’s. From a beat writer’s perspective, I goofed. I wasn’t on top [...]
Canton is likely home for new Cavs D-League team
The NBA Development League is coming to Canton.
The Cavaliers and the city of Canton sent out a dual press release Wednesday evening saying a “major” basketball operations announcement would be made today at noon at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
A Cavs official would not confirm a D-League team would make its home in Canton, but [...]
Cavaliers: Forward Omri Casspi acquired in trade for J.J. Hickson
CLEVELAND – The Cavaliers played beat the clock Thursday, pulling off a significant trade just hours before the NBA lockout began.
Cleveland dealt enigmatic power forward J.J. Hickson to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for small forward Omri Casspi and a future first-round pick.
The 6-foot-9 Casspi – a fine perimeter shooter and hard-nosed defender – will [...]
NBA: Cavs’ Antawn Jamison says players better prepared for this lockout
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Antawn Jamison was stunned in 1998 when he stumbled into the last NBA lockout as a rookie. He found the players disorganized, uninformed and unprepared for what lay ahead.
“You had guys saying one thing and you had other guys going behind their back and saying another thing,” Jamison said. “The owners knew [...]
Sides still far apart as NBA deadline looms
NEW YORK – The NBA is headed to deadline day, with perhaps one last chance to avoid a lockout.
Negotiators for owners and players will meet today, about 12 hours before the expiration of the collective bargaining agreement and seemingly nowhere close to a deal.
The sides remain far apart on just about every major issue, from [...]
Cavs stay with Eyenga, say so long to assistant coach Jent
CLEVELAND – Swingman Christian Eyenga is staying with the Cavaliers, but assistant coach Chris Jent is not.
Cleveland exercised its option on Eyenga’s contract for the 2012-13 season Wednesday, keeping the native of the Congo in the wine and gold for at least the next two years.
The 6-foot-7 Eyenga showed athleticism and solid fundamentals last winter [...]
Kyrie Irving talks like a pro, plays like a pro
INDEPENDENCE — Dressed in a gray suit and tie, 19-year-old Kyrie Irving looked more like a young businessman than the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft when he met the local media Friday afternoon at Cleveland Clinic Courts.
Equally impressive was the fact the Duke point guard, chosen by the Cavaliers with the first …Read More
Draft was good, but could have been better
I’m not saying the Cavaliers had a bad draft. I can’t say that, because they added the closest thing to a sure thing by taking Duke point guard Kyrie Irving with the No. 1 pick.
I’m not saying I’m terribly upset with the selection of Tristan Thompson with the fourth pick, though the Texas power forward’s …Read More
